ABOUT US
Howard’s Custom Upholstery was founded in 1976 by longtime friends George Howard & Lee Marble. They established the business in South Orange County when the area was in the midst of a great expansion. Today, more than forty years later, we continue to operate at the same Mission Viejo location in the Alicia Business Center.
As the business prospered, Lee reached out to our father, Octavio Guzman, to join them. Lee and Octavio had decades of combined upholstery experience under their belts by this time, working in various furniture factories. Lee had learned the trade from his father, who owned a custom upholstery shop while Octavio had learned the upholstery trade as a graduate of Trade Tech in Los Angeles.
Later, when both Lee and George made personal decisions to leave the area, Tavy, Octavio’s eldest son joined the business. With change came new opportunity and father and son succeeded in growing their business while gaining a well-earned reputation for quality. As a true family enterprise, several generations of the Guzman family have participated in the business to the present day. In 1995, Elaine Roberts joined our staff on a part time basis while raising her children. She would soon become an essential part of the business and now joins Tavy in ensuring the continued success of Howard’s as one of the very best upholstery shops in Southern California. Octavio retired in 2007.
